Could It Have Been Thyroid All Along?

Wow... I feel like I'm finally getting somewhere with a diagnosis!

As I said in my last post on March 29, the Celexa helped a lot with the anxiety. But as the days went on, I kept waiting for the nervousness and shaky spells to let up. It seemed like they did in the beginning, but as the days went on, I was still finding myself very nervous and I'd get the shakes for no reason just out of the blue. I knew something was still wrong.

I had an appointment with a brand new primary care doctor so I talked to him about it but, since it was my first visit to him, we just covered a lot of basic stuff and did not concentrate on this particular issue.

Then, he wanted to see me to discuss my lab work that he'd done. My cholesterol is excellent, but I was deficient in vitamin D... he put me on 50,000 units per week!

Ironically, I decided to take my lab work from the trip the the ER with me. They had done labs on all kinds of things that day, including thyroid.

When he looked at my thyroid levels, his eyebrows raised, his eyes widened and he said, "Your thyroid levels are sky high!" Which then made me ask, "Could that be what's causing all this shakiness and nervous feeling and muscle twitching??" He smiled and nodded his head. I then said, "Then, can I stop taking the antidepressants??" He said "Wellllllllllll, let's take one thing at a time."  But, I bet I will get to go off the Celexa soon!

I started on my new lowered dose of thyroid med today.

He explained to me that pharmacies are allowed by the FDA to change the formula on a prescription up to 15% without telling the patient or prescribing doctors! He thinks it's possible that my pharmacy may have changed the formula of the thyroid med that I've been taking all these years and that's why I've been overdosing. Crazy.

What gets me is, why didn't the first doctor I saw check my thyroid levels, why didn't the second doctor check my thyroid levels, why didn't the first doctor when I went BACK to him check my thyroid levels? And... why didn't **I** ask them to check my thyroid levels??

Well, there you have it! GOOD NEWS!!! I think I'll probably know within a week or so if this is the problem. I'm praising Jesus!!

"Renae, be of good cheer;
your faith has made you well.
Go in peace."
